Ms. Eva Ottawa has been appointed to the Commission des droits de la personne et de la jeunesse du Québec.
During the ceremony held in Quebec City on April 15, the President of the Commission, Mr. Jacques Frémont, welcomed with joy the five new members « I am confident that their expertise and understanding of human Rights and Youth rights will bring new strength to our team members, already committed to the respect for human rights » he stressed.
As a member of the Executive Committee of the project The State and indigenous legal cultures: Law in search of legitimacy and Grand Chief President of the Conseil de la Nation Atikamekw from 2006 to 2013, Ms. Ottawa feels « honoured by this appointment ».
As a lawyer and with a BA in Sociology, Ms. Ottawa is currently a consultant for educational services of the Conseil des Atikamekw de Manawan. She believes that her education and career have contributed to this appointment.
Ms. Ottawa is proud to contribute to the improvement of the social situation of Quebec. « During my first discussions with the President of the Commission Mr. Jacques Frémont and the Vice-President, Ms. Renée Dupuis, I was excited about the work that has been done and the strategic orientations developed. I am delighted to know that the commission will be proactive to ensure the improvement of social conditions and that one of its priorities is improving Aboriginal Conditions » she said.
